LINCOLN — It’s not enough for Nebraska sophomore tight end Luke Lindenmeyer merely know his responsibilities on a given play.
His position coach is now co-offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield, who has made sure the tight ends see the entire chessboard, read coverages and more.
“He’s been jokingly teaching me how to play quarterback just in case, like, all of them go down, so it’s been kinda fun,” Lindenmeyer said. “I’ve been learning a lot with him.”
It isn’t the first time the 6-foot-3, 260-pounder has had to stretch the breadth of his football knowledge. He was an offensive lineman at Papillion-LaVista High School before moving to receiver as a senior. As a tight end, he got his first significant college playing time a season ago, appearing in 12 games as a redshirt freshman.
Satterfield calls him a “hidden gem” of NU’s offense.

“He just does so much stuff for us and he does it really well,” Satterfield said. “He’s one of those guys you don’t even notice he’s out there because he’s always doing things the right way. He’s so valuable to us as an offense.”
Lindenmeyer spent part of his offseason running routes in Florida. In Nebraska, he worked on blocking, watching all of his snaps from 2023 “10 times over” before working out alone on NU’s practice field, mentally replaying the clips that had become burned into his mind.
“Last year was my actual first time playing, so I got to be around the guys the whole year, and got my feet in the water,” Lindenmeyer said. “So now this year is when I can take that next step because I got all the confidence that I need now.”
